A day at Disneyland!

I was a Disney kid. I watched Disney films a lot when I was a child, to the extent that my elder sisters (who were forced to watch with me) practically memorized every song and every line in the script. Naturally, it became one of our childhood dreams to go to Disneyland. That dream came true on our trip to Hong Kong the past weekend.

I shall go into detail of the day here because, well, it’s DISNEYLAND!

To say we were excited was an understatement. Cruising along the wide roads of Hong Kong, we became giddy seeing Mickey Mouse shaped signs.

would this count as a hidden Mickey?

To make most out of our whole experience, it was decided to have breakfast at the Enchanted Garden Cafe at the Disneyland Hotel. This restaurant was chosen because, hey, it’s a breakfast buffet and also, some characters roam around the place as you eat. When Mickey, Goofy and Pluto came to our table, excitement was in our eyes and in our huge smiles, especially on my little niece who asked each character for an autograph. So cute! Of course, pictures were taken.

As mentioned in the previous post about this trip, the whole agenda has been planned. Our route around the park has been scheduled to make the most out of our day there. First stop was Tomorrowland! We went on the Astro Blasters ride, which was super fun. We had to shoot bad guys with laser guns as we “travelled” through space. Next, we got on the Space Mountain – the indoor roller coaster. No qualms about heights as it was indoor and so dark you couldn’t see. Luckily, there was little  no wait in queueing! Pays to get there early, eh? The last thing we went on was the Autopia ride which was basically driving around the course. It wasn’t as fun as I expected but oh, well.

On the way out of Tomorrowland, we stopped by to say “hi!” to Buzz Lightyear. An autograph was signed, too. Then, it was off too Adventureland! We went on the River Boat Cruise and went to the Festival of the Lion King. The show was great! The props and the stage were amazing. The cast members of Disneyland are all so talented – in singing, dancing, everything. I envy them, in a way, they get to pursue their passion and work at the happiest place on earth!

the show’s props were so amazing. the attention to detail was superb.

After a quick lunch at The Corner Bakery back in Main Street, it was off to explore Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point – the newest attraction at Disneyland HK, and Toy Story Land.

At Grizzly Gulch, we were supposed to ride on the Runaway Mine Cars but decided against it. The roller coaster went backwards! We had enough of a rush in Space Mountain.

Mystic Point is a great new addition to Disneyland Hong Kong. The ride inside Mystic Manor was amazing. I cannot express how great the attention to detail was. Everything looked and felt real. We also took pictures at the Garden of Wonders where there are 3D illusions that were a bit obvious. It rained right around this time, too. The rest of the pictures look a bit gloomy.

we tested out one of the illusions. what do you think?

Toy Story Land is so cute! There were life sized toys all around. It was like being doll-sized yourself.

At about mid-afternoon, we decided to go meet Donald Duck at Fantasyland before placing ourselves near the Flights of Fantasy Parade’s route. I loved how the characters are so playful, especially to kids. Little things like that brought magic to the experience. It didn’t feel like taking a picture with a measly mascot at all.

For the parade, we situated ourselves right before the route makes a turn toward Main Street.

After the parade, it was back to Fantasyland. We went to Storybook Theater for the Golden Mickey’s Show. We also got on Mad Hatter’s Teacups, it’s a small world and  The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. For the Pooh ride, we had to get a Fast Pass since the line was long. A Fast Pass is a ticket you get earlier with a designated time for later to go back to the ride so that you can get on without having to queue from the back of the line. Convenient, eh?

Since the fireworks at Sleeping Beauty’s Castle would be at 9 in the evening that day, we decided to rest up and fuel up at the Corner Cafe back in Main Street. After a very filling dinner, we went out into the street to see the fireworks!

Having spent the whole day walking around, with the sun blazing down then suddenly raining in the middle of the afternoon, it was all very tiring. I had a hard time walking at the end of the day. But it was still very worth it. I got a day of fun, laughter and magic with my family at the happiest place on earth. Also, going to Disneyland is in my bucket list, so that’s another one checked off!

Given the opportunity, I would definitely go back. No hesitations at all. It would be even better to visit other Disney theme parks all over the globe. Tokyo, anyone? How about Paris? A girl can dream!
